So i'm cheating. This is actually from yesterday. Last night I ordered takeout from this tiny hole in the wall joint in Daly City. It's called Tani's Kitchen and they do up Japanese food home style. IT IS SO DAM GOOD. I got 2 orders of unagi don (1 for dad, 1 for my brother Dana) as well as 2 orders of the spicy hamburg steak (hamburger steak). The hamburger steak itself wasn't TOO spicy but it did had heat after awhile. It gave me heartburn :( But it was so dam good! I don't know how the heck they made a ground beef patty so tender.. Anywho, my mom didn't want anything. She made a giant pot of "jook" (rice porridge) and had some for dinner.
Once I got home with the food, I sat at my dad's computer desk to find myself face to face with this:
It's my mother's handwriting! I think she was drafting up an e-mail. Yes, my mother hand wrote a note before she typed it up as an e-mail. English is her 4th language so don't even try to clown on her grammar.
I love these notes she leaves around.
My father never leaves any in English, he barely reads/writes/speaks any. If anything, I will find Chinese characters written on random things i.e. napkins, wrappers, my homework (when i was younger) etc.
On Tuesday I came home to an empty house and thought my family abandoned me.
Thankfully, my mother had left me a note:
Yup, my mom calls me Sue.
She used to spell it out as SURE. It took her 10 years to learn that there is no R.
Yes my parents work out at the gym. they do from time to time (my mom actually works out every single morning at 6am..) but they went that night to swim in the pool and enjoy the heatwave. My brother was in another city (school) and my other brother had gone to the baseball game.

When I was younger I found these notes such a nuisance. Now, I cherish them. I realize that there will come a day when I won't see them anymore.
What makes me different from everyone else? Well.... there's only ONE of me for starters! HAHAHAHA. I'm a little bit of everything. I'm apprehensive but reckless. I'm outgoing but shy. I'm reserved but rambunctious. I'm a walking contradiction...and I guess you'll just have to find out why for yourself.
Day 23- What is something you crave.
Day 24- Share a story about your past that you are ashamed of.
Day 25- What I would find in your bag.
Day 26- Places you want to visit before you die.
Day 27- Why are you doing this 30 day challenge?
Day 28- A picture of you last year and now, how have you changed since then?
Day 29- In this past month, what have you learned.
Day 30- A picture of you today & 20 goals you want to accomplish

ReplyDeleteHow are you? I wonder who gave you your name :P hahahahahaa your mom's cute!! My dad can't speak english, my mom speaks a little and she's not shy to speak it and use all the words she can think of LOL
lol. I love my fobby mom too! My dad can speak and write/read fluently in English. My mom can read and write really well in English but not so much when she's speaking it. hehe.
ReplyDeleteLOL My mom is fobby, but I love her, too. She exercises at the YMCA every day after work. And she leaves short and sweet notes like your mom's and always writes "I love you" Signed, Mommy. LOL So cute...

Aww I wish you could have been at the sleepover too! You're very close with Angelique right?
ReplyDeleteOoh you live in SF? I used to live across the street from Tani's Kitchen! Actually across from Walgreen's but it was a long, looooong time ago.
Your mom's notes are so cute! That reminds me of when I used to leave notes as a kid for my family too, like "Going out. Be back later," hahaha.
Yay to fellow walking contradiction! =)
